Our Story

It Started with a Greenhouse

Owners Joe and Christine were married in one of the working greenhouses in 2009. Their wedding day turned a dusty and well-worn greenhouse into a thing of beauty; which planted the seed to create a space for others to celebrate their own special days at Highland Farm. The Greenhouse was born.

Our History

2019 marks 70 years of Highland Farm’s history in Scarborough, Maine. From the beginning, the property has been operating as a greenhouse. In fact, in the 1800’s, Highland Farm was the largest supplier of cut flowers in the Northeast.

Highland Farm is a family owned and operated business, and the undeniable sense of family and welcome energy is palpable the moment you step on the grounds. The saying is true here: “you come as strangers and leave as family.”

The farm is run by 3rd generation owners (Joe and Christine) since 2008; while 4th generation (Jacob and Hunter) are raised next door. But Joe and Christine’s involvement in the farm runs far deeper than ownership. In 2009, the couple was married in one of the working greenhouses.

Sustainability at Highland

From working farm fields and farm to table to produce available for events and caterers to farm florals (through owner Christine Viscone), Highland Farm is dedicated to sustainability efforts. The Farm is also pollinator-friendly and uses no synthetic pesticides.
